Bachelor of Science Information Technology Honours Bsitz Degree

The Bachelor of Science Information Technology Honours (BSITZ) at Zimbabwe Open University is designed to develop graduates who can select, create, apply, integrate, and administer computing technologies to meet user needs within societal and organisational contexts. The intended learning outcomes include systematic development of complex information and communication technology systems, acting as a project leader, and communicating with other IT professionals and the wider global community using communication technologies.

Learning uses a problem-based approach within open and distance learning. The programme uses modules, peer groups, an e-learning platform, and weekend tutorials. It includes an IT Professional Practice attachment and IT capstone projects across the programme, alongside courses such as Computer Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms, Software Architecture and Design, Artificial Intelligence, IT Project Management, and Cloud Computing.

For all entry pathways candidates must have at least five Ordinary Level subjects/ National Foundation Certificates including English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject at grade C or better.

Normal Entry: For admission to the programme, applicants must have 5 ‘O’ Level passes including English, Mathematics and a Physical Science subject. A level passes in Science subjects is an added advantage. Candidates with equivalent qualifications will be considered on a case basis and in line with the University’s General Academic Regulations.

Mature Entry: Should be at least 23 years old AND should have at least 2 years relevant industrial experience.

Special Entry: Candidates may be admitted on special entry in accordance with the University’s General Academic Regulations.

Accreditation Prior Learning: A minimum of 4 ‘O’ Level passes including English, plus certificate in IT should be admitted in part 1 OR Attained a qualification at Level 5 of the Zimbabwe National Qualifications Framework (ZNQF), awarded from a recognized university, college or institute. Such applicants will be admitted into part 2 of the study programme OR Attained a qualification at Level 6 of the Zimbabwe National Qualifications Framework (ZNQF), awarded from a recognized university, college or institute. Such applicants will be admitted into part 3 of the study programme.
