Diploma in Social Work

The Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work at Women’s University in Africa is a professional and practice-oriented programme for graduates who want advanced knowledge, skills, and competencies to address complex social, psychological, economic, and community challenges. It builds on foundational knowledge in social work and related disciplines, and it prepares students to use evidence-based approaches in social work practice, social policy, community development, counselling, advocacy, and social welfare services.

The programme focuses on ethical practice, human rights, social justice, research-informed interventions, and culturally responsive approaches. It supports work with individuals, families, groups, organisations, and communities, and it develops advanced assessment, intervention, case-management, documentation, report writing, and communication skills, including counselling, advocacy, and conflict-resolution abilities.

Applicants should normally meet the following requirements:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
• Applicants with a relevant degree in Social Sciences, Psychology, Sociology, Development Studies, Community Development or a related discipline may be considered, subject to the University’s admission requirements.
• A professional qualification or relevant work experience in social welfare, community development or a related field may be considered where applicable.
• Applicants must satisfy any additional requirements prescribed by the University and relevant regulatory or professional bodies.
