The Master of Education Degree in History and Development Studies is a Master of Education programme with History Education as its focus. Students study advanced research methods and statistics, historiographical issues in Zimbabwean history, developmental issues in African history before, and curriculum and pedagogical issues in history education. Modules also cover advanced gender studies in education, contemporary African affairs and development, political economy of colonialism and independent Africa, and race, citizenship and development in Africa.
Teaching and learning uses virtual and face-to-face lectures, tutorials, seminars, group work, industrial visits, micro-teaching, research projects, and individual independent study. The programme includes a dissertation carried out over two semesters under a supervisor. Students develop assessment skills through measurement and evaluation in history education. The programme awards ZNQF level 9 and has a total credit load structure defined by its regulations.
Graduates can work as classroom practitioners, lecturers, training officers, heads of departments, school managers, education officers, examination officers, and curriculum developers. The programme also prepares students for doctoral studies in History.
