Introduction

Japanese Painting is a Bachelor program taught at Kanazawa College of Art, Japan. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

The Japanese Painting course at Kanazawa College of Art develops studio skills in Japanese painting through work in precision drawing and classical painting copying, then builds foundation techniques such as support construction, gold leaf methods, and figure drawing. Students repeat Japanese painting-specific production steps, covering sketching, underdrawing, drafts, and final paper work.

Teaching is delivered with small-group instruction: 1st-year teaching includes 15 students guided by 4 full-time instructors. From 3rd year, 10 or more part-time lecturers join to support students as they pursue their own expression. Studio practice continues through課題制作 (assignment production),自由課題制作 (free work production), public and group exhibition preparation, and a final graduation artwork.
