Bachelor of Laboratory Services (UAS)

The Bachelor of Laboratory Services at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences focuses on analytical laboratory work, data quality and method development across chemistry and biosciences. Students study Orientation to Studies in Laboratory Science, Basics in Instrumental Analytical Chemistry, Basics in Biosciences, World of Organic Compounds, Quality Assurance, Environmental and Forensic Science, and From Molecules to the Product. The programme develops skills in safe and high‑quality laboratory practices, statistical analysis of results, and the development and validation of analytical techniques. It does not qualify for clinical patient sampling, but includes laboratory skills for analysing biomedical samples.

The programme comprises 210 ECTS over 3 years and 6 months as daytime, contact teaching. Most learning takes place in laboratory environments with pair or small‑group projects supported by interactive lectures and a digital learning environment. The structure includes a 30 ECTS Work Placement, a 15 ECTS Bachelor’s Thesis often commissioned by companies or research institutes, and a multidisciplinary innovation project with external partners. The programme collaborates with European universities in forensic and environmental science, offers short or long‑term exchange options, and hosts guest lecturers from partner institutions.
