Doctoral Programme in Engineering and Natural Sciences

The Doctoral Programme in Engineering and Natural Sciences at Tampere University leads to the Doctor of Science in Technology and the Doctor of Philosophy. It is based on in-depth expertise in natural sciences and mathematics. The programme covers biotechnology, energy technology, physics, chemistry and environmental engineering, and it includes basic and applied research in physics as well as research in chemistry, bioengineering, energy technology and environmental technology.

Doctoral students complete 30 credits of postgraduate studies, carry out independent research and write and defend a doctoral dissertation. The programme encourages cross-disciplinary research and international collaboration. Tampere University says the programme is intended for goal-oriented, persistent and motivated individuals.

The programme accepts new doctoral students all year round. It is delivered in Finnish and English through blended teaching. The target completion time for full-time students is three to four years, and the planned duration is four years.
