Doctoral Programme in Engineering Sciences

The Doctoral Programme in Engineering Sciences has strong industrial relevance. It covers Automation Science and Engineering, Mechanical and Production Engineering, and Materials Science and Engineering. Tampere University says doctoral students gain subject knowledge, scientific skills and communication skills, and learn to refine industrial challenges into scientific research questions and apply scientific methods to create new knowledge.

The programme uses blended teaching in Finnish and English. Full-time students complete the doctoral degree in three to four years. To complete the degree, students complete 30 credits of postgraduate studies, prepare a doctoral dissertation and defend it in public or otherwise demonstrate their skills and competence as stipulated by the university.

The programme leads to the Doctor of Science in Technology or the Doctor of Philosophy. Tampere University says graduates can pursue expert or research careers in engineering sciences and work with industrial or academic experts and communities.
