Doctoral Programme in Molecular and Cellular Systems of Life

The Doctoral Programme in Molecular and Cellular Systems of Life trains doctoral researchers in molecular and cellular biosciences. It covers plant biology, neurobiology, bioinformatics, computational biology and systems biology, and it welcomes research across all domains of life from archaea and microbes to eukaryotes and viruses.

Research projects range from molecular mechanisms controlling biological processes to global systems-level investigations. Many projects are interdisciplinary and may include biotechnology or human health.

A doctoral degree consists of a doctoral dissertation and 30 credits of studies. The studies include discipline-specific studies and transferable skills. Full-time study can take about four years, and part-time study is also possible.

Applicants must have completed one of the following: an applicable second-cycle university degree; an applicable second-cycle degree from a university of applied sciences; or an applicable education at an institution abroad providing eligibility for equivalent higher education in the country concerned. Applicants should also have a background degree, knowledge and research interests within the MaCS fields, with a suitable supervisor or supervisors agreeing to supervise the doctoral thesis work.
