Doctoral Programme in Technology

The Doctoral Programme in Technology operates in the disciplines of natural sciences and technology at the University of Turku. It covers biosciences, computer sciences, industrial engineering and management, automation and electrical engineering, biotechnology, information and communication technology, biomedical engineering and health technology, materials engineering, and mechanical engineering.

The programme leads to the degrees of Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Science in Technology, and Doctor of Science in Economics and Business Administration, depending on the major subject. Teaching is in Finnish and English. The teaching mode combines independent learning and contact teaching. The duration of completing a doctoral degree is 3-4 years of full-time studies.

University of Turku says that over half of the doctoral researchers in the programme have a foreign background. The doctoral researchers are integrated into department research teams, and the programme supports internationalisation by awarding travel grants for participation in conferences abroad.
