Master's Degree Programme in Biosciences, Master of Science

Master's Degree Programme in Biosciences is a two-year Master of Science degree at the University of Turku. It has two tracks. The Evolutionary Biology track covers evolutionary biology, ecology, genetics and physiology, with a focus on bioinformatics and computational methods for analysing evolutionary and NGS data, including modern and ancient DNA. The Molecular Systems Biology track covers modern molecular biology and systems biology, including genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and gene/protein structure-function relationships.

The programme is taught in English and delivered through contact teaching. It combines practical laboratory work, research projects and hands-on computer practicals. The Evolutionary Biology track includes bioinformatics and statistical analyses using various platforms. The Molecular Systems Biology track includes practical courses and research projects with training in systems biology techniques.

The University of Turku says the programme builds scientific and analytical skills, practical skills, teamwork and interpersonal skills in an international environment. The knowledge and skills are intended to support future career paths in academia or industry.
