Photonics Technologies is a Master of Science (Technology) programme at Tampere University. It covers photonics, the science and technology of light, and studies light-matter interactions, laser technologies, optical system design, semiconductor innovations, and nanofabrication techniques.
The programme includes compulsory basic studies, an extended major in photonics, and a 30-credit master’s thesis. After the basic study module, students choose either Photonic Materials or Ultrafast Photonics and Lasers. The programme includes hands-on laboratory assignments, frequent contact with industry, regular seminars, and the option to complete the thesis in a research group or as an industrial project. Students may also include a 20-credit freely chosen minor and can take studies from Tampere University or other higher education institutions.
Tampere University says the programme can lead to work in academia or industry, and it offers a double degree with the University of Bordeaux and participation in the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree in EuroPhotonics.
