Tampere University’s Social Sciences, Sustainable Urban Development programme leads to the Bachelor of Social Sciences and the Master of Social Sciences. It covers social sciences, sustainable urban development, research methods, politics of sustainable development, urban studies, economic renewal of cities and regions, politics and participation, organizational change, transport systems, water management, and a bachelor’s thesis.
The bachelor’s programme is 180 ECTS credits and the master’s programme is 120 ECTS credits. Students complete joint studies, basic studies, intermediate studies in sustainable urban development, and free choice studies. The programme includes an Urban Lab course with real-life urban development projects in collaboration with organizations such as the City of Tampere. The master’s programme includes an internship and a master’s thesis.
Tampere University says that students in the social sciences specialisation have a study right to continue to the Master’s Programme in Social Science Research, specialisation: Comparative Social Policy and Welfare.
