Socially Sustainable Societies, Bachelor and Master of Social Sciences

The programme examines socially sustainable societies through social policy, public health, welfare institutions, environmental policies and intersectoral action. It focuses on the social dimension of sustainability, with emphasis on resilience, equality and inclusion, and it addresses historical, global and socio-political determinants of health and well-being.

Studies are organised around topical research. The bachelor’s part includes joint studies, basic studies, intermediate studies and free-choice studies. Students can choose free-choice studies from other degree programmes and from the UniPID virtual studies. The master’s part consists of advanced studies. The programme is taught in English through contact teaching.

The programme prepares students for the Master’s Programme in Social Science Research, including the specialisations Transforming Societies (TRANSFORMS) and Comparative Social Policy and Welfare (COSOPO). The bachelor’s studies also prepare students for roles in the public sector, companies, NGOs and INGOs.
