The PhD in Civil Engineering and Earth Sciences at Budapest University of Technology and Economics is delivered through the Pál Vásárhelyi Doctoral School of Civil Engineering and Earth Sciences. Students work in research areas that include design and diagnostics of building materials and constructions, testing and design of structures, topology optimization, biomechanics, masonry structures, geotechnics, engineering geology, hydrodynamics, hydrogeology and ecosystems, and water and wastewater treatment. Other areas include design of road and railway, surveying, remote sensing and geoinformatics.
The program focuses on independent research under supervision. Students complete advanced courses and improve presentation skills through guided teaching and participation in international conferences. The research work includes publication in peer reviewed international journals and presentation of results at international conferences. Assessment includes a midterm evaluation and a comprehensive examination. The degree is awarded based on published results and a thesis defense.
