Bachelor of Industrial Studies Honours Fashion Design and Product Development

The Bachelor of Industrial Studies Honours (BIS) in Fashion Design and Product Development is a four-year honours degree focused on wider theoretical and practical knowledge in fashion design and product development. It suits people working in the apparel sector in product development, and fashion designers who want formal theoretical knowledge in fashion and apparel. It also supports learners who want to develop creative ideas into fashion products, leading to self-employment as a fashion designer.

Teaching uses distance mode, with limited face-to-face sessions that include lecture hours and laboratory work, plus printed course materials and online teaching where available. The programme is designed for study after GCE (A/L), and the duration can vary with time, commitments, finances, and capabilities. Those with recognized Diploma qualifications from other institutions may be able to complete the programme in 2 or 3 years.

• Obtained three passes in any stream, at the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) Examination, Sri Lanka, in one sitting, or
• completed the Certificate in Industrial Studies in Apparel technology offered by the Open University of Sri Lanka, or
• completed the Advanced Certificate in Industrial Studies in Apparel technology offered by the Open University of Sri Lanka, or
• completion of any foundation Programme offered by the Open University of Sri Lanka, or
• secured an equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Senate
