Bachelor of Management Studies Honours in Accounting and Finance

The Bachelor of Management Studies Honours in Accounting and Finance is an undergraduate programme from the Open University of Sri Lanka, delivered by the Department of Accounting and Finance at the Faculty of Management Studies. It focuses on Accounting and Finance and integrates Accounting, Finance, and Information Technology (IT) subjects into the core curriculum.

Teaching combines theories and practices, supported by experienced lecturers and industry professionals. The programme emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills so students can analyze financial data and make informed decisions. It uses an Open Distance Learning (ODL) process to provide access to course material.

Admission requires completing 18 years of age by the date of registration and having one of the following:

• Any three passes in one and same sitting at the General Certificate of Education (G.C.E) Advanced Level Examination, Sri Lanka, or
• Successfully completed any Foundation programme adding up to 60 credits at Level 1 and Level 2 offered by the Open University of Sri Lanka, or
• Successfully completed an advanced certificate programme having 30 SLQF credits at SLQF Level 2 offered by the Faculty of Management Studies of OUSL, or
• Successfully completed an advanced certificate programme of OUSL having 30 SLQF credits at SLQF Level 2, or
• An equivalent or higher academic or professional qualification acceptable to the Senate

Applicants other than the category ‘c’ above may be subjected to a selection test administered by the Faculty of Management Studies if necessary. The selection test has three main parts: Aptitude Test I – Arithmetic Skills; Aptitude Test II – Reasoning; Professional Communication for Managers.

Selection is based on performance at the common selection test conducted by the Faculty of Management Studies.
