Diploma in Nursing

The Higher Diploma in Nursing at Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIT) prepares students with nursing skills for patient care, clinical practices, and healthcare management. The curriculum includes theoretical learning and hands-on training in hospital settings. Learning is organised around a theory component and practical components that include in-house practice in the nursing skills lab and clinical training in hospitals.

The programme includes communication and academic English modules, basic science modules, professional and clinical modules, and nursing practice. In-house practical training includes lecturer demonstrations, students’ self-practice with lecturer guidance, and return demonstrations in front of lecturers. After students become competent, they move to hospitals for clinical training. It is scheduled on weekdays at the Malabe Campus, with instruction in English.

Local A/L: Minimum of 3 "S" passes obtained from one of the following subject streams: Biological Science/Physical Science/Bio Systems Technology/Engineering Technology AND an interview by the School of Nursing.

or Successful completion of the SLIIT CITY UNI Foundation Certificate in Health & Life Sciences AND an interview by the School of Nursing.

Cambridge/Edexcel A/Ls: Minimum of 3 "D" passes obtained from any combination of the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Psychology, Computer Science or Information Technology AND an interview by the School of Nursing.

or Successful completion of the SLIIT CITY UNI Foundation Certificate in Health & Life Sciences AND an interview by the School of Nursing.

• Graduates are eligible to apply for registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
• Graduates are prepared for nursing roles in hospitals, clinics, and healthcare organizations.
