Church Music, Master of Music

Church Music, Master of Music at the University of the Arts Helsinki develops instrument studies and research alongside church music practice. Students also improve their knowledge of pedagogy, theology and research. The university says the programme prepares students for working in diverse expert roles and development positions.

The degree is 2.5 years and is taught through contact teaching. Students choose a specialisation in choral conducting, singing, organ music, or research. They can complete a project or design their own unique module of artistic studies. The degree requirements include a written work and a thesis project. Students can also choose courses from the other two academies of Uniarts Helsinki and complete joint studies available to all students.

The applicant must have good musical skills and knowledge, motivation for church music studies, and educability. The degree programmes in Kuopio and Helsinki have the same entrance examination.
