Energy Systems and Markets, Master of Science (Technology)

Aalto University’s Energy Systems and Markets major is part of the Master’s Programme in Advanced Energy Solutions. It covers energy systems, energy sources, production, markets, transmission and use. The major gives a basic understanding of energy systems, the main challenges facing energy solutions, and possible ways towards a sustainable future.

The degree is 120 ECTS credits and takes two years. It includes 60 ECTS of major studies, 30 ECTS of elective studies and a 30 ECTS master’s thesis. The major studies include 15 ECTS of compulsory studies shared by all majors in the programme, 20 ECTS of major-specific compulsory studies and 25 ECTS of major-specific optional studies. Students may choose courses from a given list for specialisation. Aalto University says students are encouraged to spend a semester abroad, and students typically work for an industry partner for the MSc thesis.

Aalto University says the programme prepares graduates for doctoral studies. It also leads to expertise in new power and energy systems and markets.
