The Master's Programme in Finance focuses on financial markets and the people and institutions that take part in them. Students study the interactions between markets and participants. The programme covers the theoretical and empirical tools of modern finance, with topics including asset pricing, corporate finance, portfolio management and risk management. It also gives insight into economics and accounting.
The degree takes two years and 120 ECTS credits. The degree consists of four terms of 30 credits each. Teaching is in English and is mainly contact teaching. First-year studies include courses with mandatory face-to-face teaching on campus in Oulu. In the second year, students can choose courses and deepen their expertise. The programme also includes a master's thesis worth 30 credits, with seminar sessions for presentation and feedback. Courses may also include real-life projects and internships made for companies.
The programme is aimed at students with an appropriate Bachelor's degree or similar. The University of Oulu says the quantitative nature of the programme suits students who have studied business, economics, natural sciences or engineering. The programme also provides a basis for doctoral study in finance.
