Industrial Energy Processes, Master of Science (Technology)

Industrial Energy Processes is a major in the Master’s Programme in Advanced Energy Solutions at Aalto University. It gives students a basic and advanced understanding of industrial energy processes, the main challenges energy solutions in industry face, and possible ways towards a sustainable future. The programme focuses on decarbonisation of industrial processes and the use of renewable energy in industrial energy conversion.

The degree is 120 ECTS credits and takes two years. It consists of major studies, elective studies and a master’s thesis. Major studies include compulsory studies shared by all majors in the programme, major-specific compulsory studies and major-specific optional studies. Students can choose courses from the topic groups Chemical processes and energy, Industrial energy processes, and Energy automation and control. Aalto University says students typically work for an industry partner for their MSc thesis. The programme also includes the Advanced Energy Project Course (AAE-E3000), where students practice consulting skills through an industry-related problem.

The programme is taught in English and is strongly international, with studies conducted in multicultural groups. Aalto University encourages students to spend a semester abroad at one of its international partner universities. The programme is described as a strong foundation for doctoral studies.
