Life Science Technologies, Master of Science (Technology)

The Master’s Programme in Life Science Technologies studies high-tech scientific and engineering solutions for life sciences. It covers health data analysis and modelling, bioinformatics, bioelectronics and biosensing, biomedical engineering, human neuroscience and neurotechnology. Aalto University describes the programme as linked to research in these fields and intended to prepare students for work in industry or academia.

The programme takes two years and comprises 120 ECTS credits. It includes major studies, elective studies and a master’s thesis. The first year is mainly for compulsory and major courses. The second year focuses on elective studies and the thesis. Teaching uses lectures, seminars, visits, multidisciplinary projects, peer working, individual projects, practical exercises and group work. The programme is taught in English and delivered through contact teaching.

Students choose one of five majors: Bioinformatics and Digital Health, Biomedical Engineering, Biosensing and Bioelectronics, Complex Systems, or Human Neuroscience and Technology. The programme also supports exchange studies, practical training or a summer course abroad.
