Master's Programme in Law and Contemporary Governance, Master of International and Comparative Law

The Master’s Programme in Law and Contemporary Governance is a two-year programme leading to the degree of Master of International and Comparative Law. University of Helsinki says it combines legal study with the real-world context and implications of law in diverse fields. It gives students interdisciplinary insight and strong analytical skills.

The programme is taught in English and is delivered through contact teaching. It totals 120 ECTS credits and is studied full-time over two years. The curriculum includes compulsory and optional modules, a Master’s thesis of 30 ECTS, optional studies in related disciplines, an internship and a student exchange period. It is organised around four topic areas: Governance, Rights and Democracy; Sustainability and Environment; Business and Commerce; and Data and Technology. One topic area is chosen as a major specialisation and another as a minor specialisation.

University of Helsinki says the programme is for applicants with a genuine interest in complex global questions and a solid background in law. It prepares students for work in the United Nations, the European Union, other international organisations, government, NGOs, the corporate sector and companies with a global profile. It also leads to doctoral study and academic careers.
