The Doctoral Programme in Science at the University of Oulu leads to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. It covers doctoral research in Biology, Physics and Astronomy, Geography, and Mathematical Sciences. The programme combines research work aimed at a doctoral thesis with related studies in general and transferable skills and field-specific studies.
The doctoral researcher familiarises themselves with the research field, carries out research according to a research plan, writes the doctoral thesis, and defends it publicly at a doctoral defence. Teaching is in Finnish and English and is delivered through distance teaching, independent learning, and contact teaching.
