The Master’s Programme in Strategic Business Development at the University of Vaasa leads to a Master of Science (Economics and Business Administration). It covers strategic business development, business strategy, business opportunities, and the analysis and implementation of strategic choices. The programme also gives students practice-oriented work-life skills through interactive lectures, real-life and Harvard-style cases, simulations, projects, group work, presentations, and visiting presentations by managers from various industries.
The degree is 120 ECTS credits and can be completed in two years. Students are expected to complete about 30 ECTS credits each semester as active full-time students. The programme includes compulsory core studies, optional studies, methodological studies, language studies, and a master’s thesis. The thesis includes literature review, empirical data collection, analysis, and conclusions with theoretical and managerial implications.
The programme includes double degree options with the University of Pavia, Kedge Business School, and the Umeå School of Business. The University of Vaasa says students can also apply for a study period abroad through its partner universities. It says graduates are prepared for middle and upper management-level positions in multinational corporations, consulting, manufacturing firms, service businesses, and entrepreneurial firms.
