The Bachelor of Natural Resources in Sustainable Forest Management covers forestry with a focus on sustainable planning, care and use of forest resources. Students study forest nature, forest measurement, forest management, wood procurement, sustainable forest management and forest property management. The programme also covers climate change, biodiversity, the economic significance of forests, movement in forests and other grounds, and the use of applications and open data in future work.
HAMK organises the degree as full-time contact teaching over four years. Teaching takes place in English. Students study independently and in teams, and the programme places practical learning outdoors in the forest throughout the year. The Evo campus includes a 1,800-hectare demonstration forest next to the classrooms. Students can also deepen their knowledge through optional profiling studies, including challenges and conflicts in the forestry sector, wood processing in future forest environments, and projects on topical issues.
HAMK says students can also choose profiling studies from other degree programmes at HAMK, or from other higher education institutes in Finland or abroad. The programme offers contacts to industry and forestry stakeholders. Students can complete part of their studies abroad through internships, projects, thesis work or an exchange period.
