Data Science is one specialisation in Tampere University’s Master’s Programme in Computing Sciences and Electrical Engineering. It focuses on the algorithmic and computational foundations of data analysis, machine learning and artificial intelligence. The specialisation covers probabilistic modelling, efficient data mining algorithms, advanced deep learning with neural networks, and network analysis. It also develops skills in interpreting results critically and presenting them with clear summaries and visualisations.
The programme is 120 ECTS credits and takes two years. Students usually spend three semesters on courses and one semester on the master’s thesis. The curriculum gives 90 ECTS to courses and 30 ECTS to the thesis. Teaching is in English and the study mode is contact teaching.
Tampere University says the degree provides the background for doctoral studies at Tampere University or elsewhere.
