Doctoral Programme in Education, Schooling, and Learning

The Doctoral Programme in Education, Schooling and Learning educates researchers and specialists with in-depth theoretical and methodological expertise in education and learning. It brings together general education, philosophy of education, sociology of education, adult education, educational psychology, special education, early childhood education and care, teacher education, general and subject-specific didactics, educational neuroscience, craft science and home economics, speech-language pathology, and cognitive science.

The degree consists of a doctoral thesis and 30 credits of compulsory studies. These include discipline-specific studies such as methodology and subject-specific courses, and general transferable skills such as research ethics, academic writing, and scholarly communications. The programme also includes international scholarly activities such as research collaboration and participation in international conferences. It can be completed in four years of full-time study, and also on a part-time basis.

It is designed for applicants whose prior degree is suited to the research topic and discipline of the doctoral thesis, and whose completed degree includes advanced studies in a subject that provides a suitable foundation for doctoral studies.

Prior degrees (master’s or equivalent) must be suited to the research topic and discipline of the prospective doctoral thesis. A completed degree or education is considered suitable when it includes advanced studies, or equivalent, in a subject that, taking into account the doctoral thesis topic, serves as a suitable foundation for doctoral studies.
