Forestry (MDP FOR and TransFor-M), Master of Science (Forestry)

The Master's Degree Programme in Forestry aims to promote the ecologically and socially sustainable use of natural resources. It provides multidisciplinary education in forestry and bioenergy, with an emphasis on environmental and social sustainability. The programme also strengthens cross-cultural skills and gives insight into working in diverse international settings.

The degree lasts two years and carries 120 ECTS credits. The studies are divided into compulsory courses, elective courses, and a Master’s thesis. In TransFor-M, students take 60 ECTS at the University of Eastern Finland and 60 ECTS at a Canadian partner university. One elective course is a practical training period, usually completed in a private company, NGO, research organisation, or public sector organisation in Finland or another country.

The programme is designed to prepare students for work in the international field of forestry, for research, and for specialist positions. It also provides knowledge and skills for work in multinational organisations.
