Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Master of Science (Technology)

Geotechnical Engineering is a specialisation within Tampere University’s Master of Science (Technology) in Civil Engineering. The programme develops knowledge of Finnish soil conditions, site investigation methods, soil material properties, groundwater and geotechnical analysis methods. It also covers sustainable and economic foundations for structures and the design of life-cycle efficient and sustainable traffic infrastructures.

Teaching is in English and the programme takes two years. Students work in small teams on real-life case assignments and use individual and group exercises, learning diaries and exams. Research Centre Terra is responsible for most of the education and training in the geotechnical engineering major.

Tampere University says the programme is aimed at training new experts for Finnish companies operating nationally and internationally. The degree gives eligibility to apply for doctoral studies, including the Doctoral Programme in the Built Environment.
