Human-Technology Interaction is a Master of Science specialisation in Computing Sciences and Electrical Engineering at Tampere University. The programme covers human-computer interaction, human-centred design, user research, interaction design, user interface design, user experience evaluation, user psychology, usability engineering, multimodal human-computer interaction, accessibility, cross-cultural and sustainable design, and gamified and playful design approaches. It also includes qualitative and quantitative research skills and study of mobile and desktop interfaces, virtual and augmented reality, human-robot interaction, collaboration technologies, and industrial machinery.
The degree has 120 ECTS credits. Courses make up 90 ECTS credits and the Master’s thesis 30 ECTS credits. Students usually spend three semesters on courses and one semester on the thesis. The studies start in late August and the academic year ends in late May. The programme uses contact teaching and is research-led, with links to TAUCHI and the Gameful Realities research centre. It includes course projects and prepares students for scientific thinking and writing.
Tampere University says students can specialise as a Designer, Interaction developer, or HTI Researcher. The degree also provides a basis for doctoral studies in Finland and abroad.
