The Information Security specialisation in Tampere University’s Master’s Programme in Computing Sciences and Electrical Engineering covers the fundamentals of information security and privacy, then moves on to cryptography, network security, software security, and access and identity management. The programme focuses on how to protect systems from attacks and how to analyse their security.
The degree is 120 ECTS credits and takes two years. Students usually spend three semesters on courses and one semester on the Master’s thesis. Teaching is in English and delivered through contact teaching, with lab-based sessions, student-led tutorials, seminars, and lectures by internal staff and guest speakers.
Tampere University says students can take part in research projects during thesis work and use Cyber Labs, which includes switches, routers, next generation firewalls, virtualization platforms, SDN capability, a traffic generator tool, and a network monitoring tool.
