International Design Business Management, Master of Science (Technology)

IDBM is a 120-credit Master of Science (Technology) programme that combines design, technology and global business development. Students study the same compulsory IDBM major courses in the first year across the Design, Science and Technology, and Business tracks. The courses cover creative teamwork, business model design, corporate entrepreneurship and global virtual teamwork.

The programme includes a six-month Industry Project, where multi-disciplinary student teams work on real-life challenges from industry partners. Students also complete engineering specialisation or minor studies in their own field, along with electives and a thesis. Aalto University also offers options to build global competence through courses with an intercultural approach, foreign languages, exchange study, practical training or a master's thesis abroad, and summer courses abroad.

IDBM is designed for students with a B.Sc. or equivalent degree in a relevant field in engineering, technology or natural sciences. The programme provides eligibility for doctoral studies.

Applicants should hold a B.Sc. or equivalent degree in a relevant field in engineering, technology or natural sciences. Previous studies should be relevant for the specialisation the applicant is applying for. The compatibility and relevance of previous studies are evaluated in relation to the desired engineering specialisation area stated in the letter of motivation.
