Novia University of Applied Sciences offers the Master of Engineering in Autonomous Shipping Management as a 60 ECTS degree with a special focus on the digitalisation of maritime operations. The programme covers autonomous shipping management from seafaring, legal and economic aspects, and it includes subjects such as safety, sustainable shipping economics, cargo management, risk management and insurance, cyber security, artificial intelligence, machine learning, human-machine interaction, maritime administration, and the human factor in autonomous shipping.
The programme is part-time and planned as two years of study. Novia University of Applied Sciences says it is primarily online, with independent learning, online teaching and distance teaching. The teaching is arranged through a learning platform, with lecture materials and assignments completed online. The studies include two contact lecture days every second month, and some courses include mandatory professional study visits to shipping organisations and administrations in Nordic countries and possibly the UK.
The thesis is a 30 ECTS development project or research work linked to working life and the maritime field. Novia University of Applied Sciences says it can be based on an investigation or analysis, a development project or case, theoretical work, or product development such as a prototype, process or model.
