The Master’s Programme in Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary programme in biological and related sciences. It has two study tracks: Neuroscience and Molecular and Physiological Basis of Health. The programme covers the neural basis of behaviour, sensory performance and consciousness, as well as the molecular, cellular, network and systemic mechanisms that govern organism health.
The programme is worth 120 ECTS credits and is planned to take two years. Teaching is in English and uses contact teaching. The degree includes advanced studies, a Master’s thesis worth 30 credits, and other studies chosen from the programme or from other study programmes. Students choose between the two study tracks when applying, but the selection is not binding.
The University of Helsinki says the programme prepares students for doctoral studies and for research careers. It also says graduates can qualify for specialist jobs outside academia, including in the pharmaceutical industry, companies, and the public sector.
The University of Helsinki says the study tracks are suitable for applicants with a previous degree such as a bachelor’s degree in biology, cell and molecular biosciences, biochemistry, bioinformatics, biotechnology or biomedicine, or in psychology if the previous training included sufficient molecular and cell biological content.
