Materials Science and Engineering at Tampere University is a 2-year Master of Science (Technology) degree worth 120 ECTS credits. It covers how materials are designed, manufactured, characterised and applied in real technologies. The programme also looks at microstructure, manufacturing processes, and how to tailor material properties and improve performance.
The degree includes compulsory basic studies, a major subject, a minor subject for most students, and a master’s thesis related to the major subject. You can choose a major in Advanced Engineering Materials, Mechanics of Materials, Sustainable Materials, or Medical Biomaterials and Their Applications. The programme uses contact teaching, hands-on laboratory work, project-based learning, and links to research. It also offers a double degree option with Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
Tampere University says the programme allows flexible study paths and that graduates are in demand across global industries and research organisations. The degree gives eligibility to apply for doctoral studies.
