Mechanical engineering combines product development, design and modelling with production, automation and robotisation. The programme covers materials, processing, and the management of people and goods. It also uses digital and virtual environments in design and considers the product life cycle and circular economy.

The studies give an overview of modern product design and production techniques. Students learn to understand business, marketing and customer needs in product development, and to design and manufacture consumer goods, machinery and equipment for different industries. The programme includes collaborative team assignments with students and teachers from other programmes on the Lappeenranta campus.

LUT University describes the Bachelor's Programme in Mechanical Engineering as a double degree developed with Hebei University of Technology in China. Students receive degree certificates from LUT and HEBUT after completing the degree requirements of both.
