Structural Engineering is a specialisation in Tampere University’s Master’s Programme in Civil Engineering. The studies cover structural efficiency, safety, sustainability and resilience for new and existing structures and buildings. They also cover engineering theory, design methodology, materials, analysis tools, structural analysis, and the specialist technical and computational skills used in the construction industry.

The programme uses core required basic courses and elective courses. Students work in small teams on real-life case assignments and complete individual and group exercises, learning diaries and exams. The studies include timber, steel and concrete structures, hand calculations and computer simulations. Tampere University says the programme has a close dialogue with major structural engineering companies in Finland and includes topical research results in teaching.

The specialisations in the master’s programme are Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering and Sustainable Transport. The degree is a two-year master’s programme.
