The Bachelor of Health Care, Physiotherapy at Satakunta University of Applied Sciences SAMK focuses on the functional ability of people of all ages within rehabilitation. Studies emphasise evidence-based physiotherapy planning based on assessment, client needs and clinical reasoning, guided by ethical guidelines and legislation. Students develop intercultural, interactive and educational skills and may study Finnish with the aim of reaching a satisfactory level.
The programme comprises 210 ECTS over 3 years 6 months and is delivered as full-time contact teaching with on-campus and online lectures. Practical studies are integrated with theory, using exercises, exams, written assignments, portfolios and projects, often in small groups. The structure includes Basic studies, Professional studies, Work placement (75 ECTS, including 30 ECTS integrated and 45 ECTS in external organisations), a Bachelor’s thesis (15 ECTS) and Elective studies. Students may complete theoretical studies and clinical practice abroad, and the degree includes cooperation with private, public and third-sector organisations.
Graduates obtain the qualification Physiotherapist (AMK), Bachelor of Health Care, and are entitled to apply for licensing as a physiotherapist. The programme also prepares students for further specialisation or Master’s studies in physiotherapy.
