Bachelor of Health Care is a nursing degree of 210 ECTS credits. Laurea describes the nurse as a nursing expert who plans, implements, evaluates and develops nursing to promote health, prevent and treat disease, and support rehabilitation. The studies cover professional ethics, communication and multiprofessional work, health promotion, clinical nursing, evidence-based practice, quality assurance, patient and customer safety, and the social and health care service system. The programme also includes 30 ECTS credits of complementary competence studies that students choose from areas such as medical-surgical nursing, mental health, paediatric nursing, perioperative nursing and digital skills.
The programme includes activating lectures, simulations, clinical practice, workshops, seminars, projects with working life partners and independent study. Ninety ECTS credits are completed in clinical practice in settings such as hospitals, health care centres, outpatient clinics and third sector organisations. The degree includes a 15-credit thesis, which may be a workplace development project or part of Laurea's research and development activities. After 180 ECTS credits, students take a national exam.
Laurea says the degree follows the Professional Qualifications Directive and leads to application for the right to practise as a licensed health care professional.
