About this program

The Economics programme gives students in-depth economic expertise and strong analytical skills, together with computation and data processing skills. It is for students interested in complex issues such as climate change, inequality and innovation, and in addressing them through economics.

Aalto University organises the programme within the School of Business as a two-year degree of 120 ECTS credits. The structure includes 84 ECTS of programme studies, including a 30 ECTS Master’s Thesis, and 36 ECTS of electives. Students can also take economics courses through Helsinki Graduate School of Economics at the University of Helsinki, Hanken School of Economics and Wider Institute. They can complete 24 ECTS of minor studies at an official exchange programme partner of the School of Business. Students also have the chance to spend a semester abroad at an Aalto partner university.

The programme has three majors: Economics, Research Master in Economics, and Environmental and Energy Economics. Aalto University says the degree grants eligibility for doctoral studies.
