The Master's Programme in Forest Sciences studies forests as ecological systems and as sources of renewable resources. It covers forest ecology, climate change, biodiversity, sustainable forest use, wood processing, forest economics, policy, and the links between forests, society, and natural resources.
The degree is 120 ECTS credits and takes two years. It is taught in English through contact teaching. The degree includes 30 credits for the master's thesis. Students choose between the Forest Ecology and Management study track and the Forest Economics, Business, and Society study track.
The University of Helsinki says the programme is for students who want to become experts in the sustainable use of forest resources in a multidisciplinary setting. It is also suitable for fully employed students, for whom a personal study plan can be composed of flexible course packages.
