Master’s Degree Programme in Pedagogy and Teaching for Sustainability deals with pedagogical approaches and how education can promote sustainability. It covers teaching and learning in different subjects and educational contexts, and introduces the Finnish educational system and national curriculum. The programme also strengthens skills and knowledge in pedagogy and in global issues in education.
The programme is 120 ECTS credits and lasts 2 years. It is delivered through contact teaching in Joensuu. The structure includes Orientation Studies, Major Studies, Finnish Studies and Other Studies. Orientation Studies introduce the University of Eastern Finland, the Finnish educational system, and the programme’s learning objectives, content and assessment criteria. Major Studies deepen research methodology skills in educational sciences and prepare students for the Master’s thesis. Finnish Studies introduce the Finnish language.
The University of Eastern Finland states that the programme does not automatically lead to teacher qualification in Finland.
