Biomedical Informatics, Biomedical Technology is a two-year Master of Science programme at Tampere University. It focuses on biomedical technology, molecular biology, cell technology and biomedical informatics. The programme brings together biology, chemistry, medicine, genetics, statistics, computational sciences and data sciences. Within the programme, students choose one of three options: Biomedical Informatics, Cell Technology or Molecular Biology.
The curriculum consists of general studies, advanced studies, elective studies and free-choice studies. It includes a module of methodological studies for each specialisation and a master’s thesis of 30 ECTS credits. The thesis is based on individual experimental or computational research under the guidance of an appointed supervisor. A thesis seminar of 2 ECTS credits supports the work. Teaching is entirely in English and delivered as contact teaching.
The programme is intended for students with a Bachelor’s degree in biological, computational or mathematical sciences. Tampere University says graduates may work in research and development in academic institutions and private companies, in sales and marketing, in the public sector and governmental institutions, or continue to doctoral studies.
