The Computer Science and Engineering degree programme at the University of Oulu covers artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, computer science, software engineering, cloud computing, robotics, and human-centred digital technologies. The programme is organised as a 300 ECTS degree made up of bachelor’s studies and master’s studies. In the bachelor’s studies, students take orientation, language and communication studies, mathematics and natural sciences, major studies, and a supplementary module.
In the master’s studies, students choose one study option from Artificial Intelligence, Applied Computing, Embedded Systems and Cyber Security. The programme uses lectures, exercises, laboratory work, independent study, project work, and group assignments. Many courses are offered through online or blended teaching, and study on the University of Oulu campus is also required. The bachelor’s thesis is 8 ECTS credits, and the master’s thesis is 30 ECTS credits. MSc studies include compulsory practical training in a company, research institute or university.
University of Oulu describes the degree as preparation for future Diploma Engineers in roles that develop software, intelligent systems, and secure digital solutions. It also gives a qualification for doctoral studies.
