Aalto University’s Computer Science, Master of Science (Technology), is a two-year programme in the Master’s Programme in Computer, Communication and Information Sciences. It covers the theoretical foundations and practical design and analysis of algorithms, software, and computing technologies. The major is organised around five study tracks: Algorithms, Logic, and Computation; Big Data and Large-Scale Computing; Software Systems and Technologies; Web Technologies, Applications, and Science; and Secure Systems.
The degree totals 120 ECTS credits and includes major studies, an optional minor, elective studies, and a 30 ECTS master’s thesis. In year one, students take the required computer science courses and begin a specialisation track. In year two, they focus on the thesis topic, take supporting courses, and complete a company internship. Teaching uses contact teaching, distance learning, small group learning, and online feedback tools, and the School of Science generally requires on-campus attendance.
Aalto University says the major qualifies graduates for doctoral studies. It is also described as a route to advanced industry positions and research careers.
