The Human-Computer Interaction and Design with Extended Reality (HCID/XR) master’s programme is an interdisciplinary programme that combines human, technological and business aspects. It uses a user-centred design approach. Students study how to create products and services for desktop, mobile and immersive systems with usability and user experience in mind.
The programme is a double degree with studies at two universities in two countries. It totals 120 ECTS credits over two years: a major of 60 ECTS, an Innovation and Entrepreneurship minor of 30 ECTS, and a master’s thesis of 30 ECTS. The first year includes foundation courses in human-computer interaction, virtual reality, user-centred design, interactive systems, evaluation, and multidisciplinary design project work.
In the second year, students choose a specialisation at an exit-point university. Aalto University offers Cross-Device Interaction in XR. This specialisation focuses on designing and developing XR applications that connect immersive and non-XR devices using tools such as Unity and Flutter.
