The Master of Health Care in Advanced Practice Nursing in Acute Care is a 90 ECTS master-level programme for nurses. It follows International Council of Nurses guidelines and focuses on advanced practice competencies in acute care nursing, clinical specialisation, evidence-based practice, research and development, global health and ethics, clinical examination, advanced clinical expertise, and simulation in acute care.
The programme is delivered in English through blended teaching. Studies are primarily online, with short intensive teaching periods on campus and at an INGENIUM partner university. During the first semester, students attend 1–2 weeks of on-site instruction at the Kotka campus in Finland. In the second semester, teaching takes place for 1–2 weeks at an INGENIUM partner university. The degree includes a 30 ECTS master’s thesis connected to working life and may be completed with a workplace, through Xamk RDI projects, or by commission of programme partners.
Xamk says the programme is for Registered Nurses, including Public Health Nurses and Paramedics with RN status, with at least two years of professional experience. The degree qualifies graduates to apply for doctoral studies in health care.
