Public and Global Health, Master of Health Sciences

Public and Global Health, Master of Health Sciences at Tampere University studies public health and global health in an interdisciplinary setting. The programme covers epidemiology, health promotion, health policy, health protection and security, health systems, health economics, global health policy, governance, social determinants of health, Health in All Policies, health and environment, work and health, aging, social protection, sustainability and planetary health.

The degree takes 2 years and is taught through contact teaching in English. Students work with real-life cases and assignments, can take an optional 3-month internship in Finland or abroad, and may include a short- or long-term international mobility period. The thesis component is 35 ECTS credits and includes two thesis seminars and an independently written Master’s Thesis.

Tampere University says the programme is designed to prepare graduates for work in public and global health and for doctoral studies. It also states that the programme is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Health Sciences Unit, and that graduates go on to work in government agencies, non-governmental organisations, academia and private industry.
