Software Engineering and Information Systems at the University of Oulu studies human-technology interactions, software, information systems and digital services. The programme focuses on programming, professional software engineering practices, information systems design and management, and user-centred design. It also includes digitalisation, automation and artificial intelligence in the course content.
The degree runs for 5 years and combines a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science. The bachelor’s phase has 180 ECTS credits, with 150 credits common to all students and 30 credits of elective studies. The master’s phase has 120 credits, with common studies, orientation studies, at least one specialisation subject, elective studies and a master’s thesis. Students can choose between the Software Engineering and Information Systems orientations in the master’s phase, and can tailor their studies through electives and minors. There is an opportunity to go on student exchange abroad in the autumn of the third year, and the programme includes project work with companies and research organisations.
The University of Oulu says the programme prepares students for professional tasks in the ICT sector after the bachelor’s degree and for independent expert roles after the master’s degree.
